This is a straw material applied to the roof in the same manner as water reed, leaving only the thick ends (butts) exposed to the weather and all the ears buried in the roof.

Again this is supplied to the thatcher pretty much ready to use, apart from some clipping and tidying up before application.

Production

Each year we spend a few days helping out with the harvest to ensure a continued supply of good quality straw.
